The Disabled Student Programs & Services’ (DSPS) purpose is to reduce the impact of a disability on the individual’s ability to fully participate in their chosen educational process. DSPS at Merced College serves to make a wide array of educational opportunities available to its students. The goal of DSPS is to optimize learning based on the potential of the individual, not to therapeutically remedy the disability. All disabled students are part of the college’s mainstream programs and services. While DSPS staff provides a supportive and individualized approach to the provision of services, students are encouraged to be independent and expected to be responsible.
